The lack of an EPG was a major setback for Microsoft when it launched Windows Media Center Edition 2005 software in October 2004 since then IceTV (ICE being an acronym of Intelligent Content Engine) has been Australia's first and only independent subscription free-to-air EPG service to date. IceTV offers an electronic program guide (EPG) that shows you what's on TV for the coming 7 days for all the free-to-air TV channels in your area.
IceGuide lets you schedule recordings by simply highlighting the names of you favourite TV programs using the onscreen TV guide and pressing "record", your favourite shows are automatically scheduled to record directly to your hard drive every time they're on. So there is no need to set the time, date, channel or even duration.
Subscriptions for IceGuide generally cost around $3 per week and a free two-week trial for compatible media centres and PVRs is available. Ice TV have also released its PIMP (Personal Interactive Media Planner) service, which allows access and control of its free-to-air TV EPG from any PC, PDA, mobile phone or Web browser. This service is a free add-on to your subscription. All in all Ice TV is an inexpensive service available to users which compliments and enhances your Media Centre PC experience.
